MTF/GAMUT seminar: The Economics of Transport

The Metropolitan Transport Forum (MTF) and the University of Melbourne's Centre for the Governance and Management of Urban Transport (GAMUT) are hosting a key event on the Economics of Transport, including project assessment and transport pricing.

The event will be held at Melbourne Town Hall, Swanston Street, Melbourne and features a large number of expert speakers. These include:

  • Henry Ergas, Senior Economic Adviser, Deloitte
  • Rose Elphick  CEO Victorian Freight and Logistics Council
  • Susan Gillett   Executive, Infrastructure Policy, Commercial Division, Department of Treasury and Finance:
  • John Stanley  Associate Professor in Transport, former CEO, Bus Association Costing transport infrastructure for externalities
  • Bill Russell , Professor at GAMUT, University of Melbourne

MTF/GAMUT seminar: Passenger Transport Forum

Run in partnership between the Metropolitan Transport Forum (MTF) and the Governance and Management of Urban Transport (GAMUT) research centre, this seminar will feature a panel of international transport experts from the GAMUT transport conference who will provide their views of passenger transport in Melbourne.

Scheduled for Friday June 4th 2010, this panel includes an impressive line-up of expertise from China, Japan, India and South Africa, including:

  • Prof. Pan Haixiao, Department of Urban Planning, Tongji University, Shanghai
  • Prof. Yusunori Doi, Ritsumeikan University, Kyoto

Engineers Australia: The Population Predicament - Victoria @ 9 Million

The Victorian Transport Branch of Engineers Australia is running a seminar entitled The Population Predicament: Victoria @ 9 Million

  • Prof Lyndsay Neilson, Founding Director for the Centre for Developing Cities
  • John Stanley, Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies, Uni of Sydney
  • Brian Haratzis, Director, Macroplan

These three high-profile speakers will discuss future directions for Australian cities, and the Commonwealth agenda for transport and land use planning, comparing Victorian cities with others on an international stage and identify several big ideas we should consider as we approach 2050.

Summit: 2nd Annual Victorian Infrastructure Summit

2nd Annual Victorian Infrastructure Summit 2010 will be hosted by IIR Conferences 29 - 30 July 2010.

This summit, themed Delivering Crucial Infrastructure to Drive the Economic Growth and Development of the Nation’s Fastest Growing State, will discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by population growth in Victoria and the demand this places on infrastucture.

Conference: 10th Annual National Public Private Partnerships Summit

Debate: The Future of Transport in the Bendigo Region

GAMUT International Conference 2010

The Governance and Management of Urban Transport (GAMUT) research centre is holding its annual International Conference on 2-4 June 2010. The theme for this year's event will be Sustainable Transport in the Asia-Indo-Pacific: Varied Contexts - Common Aims.

This conference will discuss methods to raise the priority of environmental sustainability and social justice in planning for urban transportation in different national contexts in the Asia-Indo-Pacific region. This is considered a prerequisite for the long term economic and political security of the region and the world.

Keynote speaker include;

  • Dr Lee Schipper (Senior Research Engineer, The Precourt Energy Efficiency Centre, Stanford University; Project Scientist,Global Met Studies, University of California, Berkeley; formerly Director of Research, EMBARQ; founder of the World Resources Institute Center for Sustainable Transport)
  • Professor Jiang Yulin (Director of the China Urban Sustainable Research Center CUSTReC in Beijing)

VLGA Seminar: Social Inclusion Principles for Transport Engineers

VLGA Training, the Thinking Transport website and Engineers Australia present:

Social Inclusion Principles for Transport Engineers seminar.

Sustainable transport networks are built on the practical and strategic skills of engineers.  However, these core skills do not equip Transport Engineers to take a variety of complex social factors into account.

Specifically targeted at engineers, planners and other working in the transport design and management field, this seminar provides unique access to expert presenters who will provide an overview of the social implications of transport planning and how to respond.

Presenters include:
