Action Plan for Walking: 2008 - 2010 (QLD)
The Action for Walking: 2008 - 2010 sets out to achieve a vision for Queensland where people from all sectors of the community are able to choose to walk for transport and enjoyment. This in turn will help to create a healthier population, connected communities, and an integrated, affordable and sustainable transport system. There are 8 action areas, based on the principles in the International Charter for Walking, with each action identifying the lead and partner agency, the target group and priority.
The 8 action areas are:
- A culture of walking
- Increased inclusive mobility
- Well designed and managed spaces and places for people
- Improved integration of networks
- Supportive land-use and spatial planning
- Reduced road danger
- Increase security and safety
- More supportive authorities
The Action for Walking: 2008 - 2010 is available for download or to access the plan via the Queensland Transport website, click here. The Queensland Government has also prepared a toolkit, entitled Easy Steps, to assist local governments in promoting walking. Also available for download, obtained from the Queensland Transport website, is an audit tool designed to improve pedestrian safety, accessibility and amenity.
