In order to encourage cycling and public transport, the ACT Government introduced bike racks on the intertown
300 bus routes in November 2005.

These bike racks fill an existing gap in public transport where cyclists would previously be unable to take their bikes on buses, which they can do on trains. This would limit their mobility at the end of the bus trip and leave their bicycle open for theft.
