Program Summary

The Community Plan - Shaping Our Future Whittlesea 2025 – is the key document that outlines the future direction for the whole City of Whittlesea. The plan has been developed by the Whittlesea community, for the community, through wide consultation during 2009.

The plan identifies the community’s vision for the year 2025 and considers the needs and priorities of residents.

The Shaping Our Future vision is of a future city where:

We live together in harmony, respecting each other’s cultural identity.
We are socially connected to the people around us, technologically connected to the digital world, and we care about the natural environment in and around our homes.
We acknowledge and respect our past and provide for today with tomorrow in mind.

Everyone who works and or lives in the City of Whittlesea can play a role in helping reach this vision.

Whittlesea City Council has identified the roles that it will play towards reaching the vision and the measures to monitor progress. The plan also includes a shorter term Action Plan for 2009-2013, which sets out how Council will work towards the vision.

This document served as an excellent example of strategic transport management as part of a whole-of-government strategy. This document provides clear goals and measurements within which individual actions can occur, ensuring all efforts complement each other and avoid gaps in service provision and accessibility.
