Hastings BUG

Program Summary

Printer-friendly version

The Hastings Bicycle Users Group (BUG) is a social group that meets up every Monday to go for a social ride in the nearby area.

It includes over 40 members, with a regular turn out each Monday of 15-18 from every walk of life. Members of the group vary from new mothers, all the way up to the oldest member at 73 years old.

The BUG not only promotes cycling in the community, but makes it accessible to older people, new parents and others who would otherwise have limited opportunities to socialise and meet new people.

The Hastings BUG most recently participated in  even has a sister-group in the city of Seattle, USA.

Bicycle User Groups (BUGs) are a very easy and successful way to encourage cycling in a local community with the added health and social benefits contributing to the community. This project could be easily replicated in other local government areas.

For more information on the Hastings BUG, see the attached flier.
