Whittlesea City Council Walking Strategy

Program Summary

Printer-friendly version

The Whittlesea Walking Strategy has been developed to improve the walking environment throughout the City, and to promote walking as a safe and healthy mode of transport.

The objectives of the Whittlesea Walking Strategy are:

  • To provide a physical environment in which walking is safe, convenient, secure and attractive, where walking routes are as connected as possible, and where walking facilities are built to the appropriate standard for the range of pedestrians in the community.
  • To provide for improved access to sustainable transport modes (walking, cycling and public transport) and an effective, efficient and fully integrated transport system.
  • To plan and develop Epping Transit City, Activity Centres and Growth Areas so they have high quality walking environments and direct pedestrian linkages to their rail stations, public transport interchanges and the surrounding residential, educational, employment and community uses.
  • To establish policy, coordinated management processes and guidelines to support walkability.
  • To promote and support a range of walking programs, and collect data and information to evaluate walkability in our communities.

A copy of the strategy is available from the Whittlesea City Council website - look in the Related Downloads box to the right.
