State Budget to provide funding to improve taxi rank safety

Announced on Mon 27 April 2009, the $4 million Taxi Rank Safety Program initiative will enable local governments to apply for funding to improve nominated taxi ranks to deliver improved safety for passengers.  The program will run over 4 years and will fund infrastructure including:
•    Closed circuit television;
•    Improved lighting;
•    Pedestrian barriers;
•    Weather shelters;
•    Signage;
•    Seats and
•    Road treatments.
