New Road Safety rules to come into effect 9 Nov 2009
Making of Road Safety (General) Regulations 2009 and Road Safety Road Rules Amendment Rules 2009
On 29 September, the Governor in Council at the Executive Council made the Road Safety (General) Regulations 2009 and Road Safety Road Rules Amendment Rules 2009. These regulations from part of the Road Safety Regulations changes which VicRoads has been updating you on throughout the year. The new regulations will come into effect on 9 November 2009. The new regulations are available for download.
A summary of the background to the changes:
- The Road Rules amendment rectifies some minor unintended anomalies in the Road Rules.
- The Road Safety (General) Regulations 2009 update the old regulations dated 1999 and amend and add some infringement penalties and their values.
A further amendment will need to be made to the General Regulations to incorporate new infringement penalties from the Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations 2009 and the Road Safety (Traffic Management) Regulations 2009 once they are made.
Please find attached a PDF copy of both sets of regulations. Also attached is the Government Gazette notice relevant to the making of these regulations.
