Transport Stall - South Gippsland Sustainability Festival

Program Summary

Printer-friendly version

The first South Gippsland Sustainability Festival was held on Sunday 14th March, to help raise awareness and promote sustainable alternatives to residents. The event aimed to help residents explore the vast range of ideas and concepts that surround living within a sustainable environment, including:

  • Food holders showcasing locally grown produce and what individuals can achieve in their own backyard.
  • Local businesses showcasing innovative products and services
  • Health and life style education.
  • Demonstration on alternative farming techniques.

Katherine Cousins, the South Gippsland Transport Connections Coordinator, took advantage of the festival to raise awareness of alternative transport options using a wide variety of media in the Transport Stall.

South Gippsland is a very car dependent region. With improved V/Line coach services and shared pathways, residents and visitors will be encouraged to access more sustainable forms of transport.

The Transport Stall was placed near the children's area and used a number of diverse approaches to engage adults and children alike.

Katherine plans encourage youth awareness in particular by taking the Transport Stall to the upcoming Raw Vibes music festival - an annual youth music festival in the South Gippsland district, scheduled for late March in 2010.
